Lynn's Story

Lynn began karate at the age of 9 years.  Prior to moving to Hawaii from Singapore, she took a self-defense class similar to karate.  She knew once she moved to Hawaii, she would seek something that involved physicality and discipline.  After enrolling in the beginner's class at the University Square dojo, she has never looked backed since.

She loves karate because it allows her to express her emotions, personality, and agility through activities like Kata and Kumite.  She also enjoys the social aspect and believes karate has created a new community of friends unlike any other sport.

This year she won the prestigious title of "National Champion" at the 2025 USA Karate National Championships held in Houston, Texas.  After receiving "Gold" in the girl's 16 to 17 year old elite kata division, Lynn qualified to represent the United States in the Junior Pan American Championships held on Asuncion, Paraguay from August 28th - 31st.  This was Lynn's very time making the junior national team and she won the "Bronze" medal.

Her aspirations is to one day make the senior national team and represent the United States in the Pan American Championships and World Championships.
